Degrees (Of Heat) in Bentwater, Texas
It's amazing. Is there anything the Internet doesn't know?Just the other day I was browsing that pinnacle of wisdom, Facebook, when I ran across a friend's post saying that "you know you're in Texas when" the temperature drops below 95 and you feel a little chilly or when hot water comes out of both taps or when you can make sun tea in seven seconds. Yes, indeed. It's a Texas summer when you can steer (actually, have to steer) your car with two fingers and your seat belt buckle turns into a darn good branding iron. Of course, you can also tell you're in Bentwater, Texas when sixty ladies pile into golf carts and drive off into 100 degree temperatures chasing the very worthiest of all prizes. Bragging rights. Yep.
The BLGA member/member knows no limits. Even when it feels like aerobic golf, they can stand the heat. And thus they did. For two days. And bragging rights go to Sandra Ayers and Marlene Summers for winning the overall gross, with Darlene Bumstead and Becky Gustamante winning overall net. Keeping their cool despite the heat, 1st flight gross winners were Diana Henigan and Sally Edmonds, and net winners were Laurie Burtch & Soy Butler. 2nd flight gross winners were Faye Chapman & Jerri Stewart, and net winners were Liz Jones & Connie Landgraf. And rounding out the field in the 3rd flight, the gross winners were Judy Weiss & Donna Hagan while the net winners were Pat Wright & Annette Young. Closest to the pin winners were Tee Beecroft on Miller #8, Susan Collier on Miller #17, Sharon Tuttle on Miller #11, Marlene Summers on Weiskopf #17 (no wonder they won overall), Mary Ann Jordon on Weiskopf #14, Diane Ragsdale on Weiskopf #8 and Joanne Rosa on Weiskopf #3.
Through it all, no one complained too much about the weather, but it was reported that some players witnessed birds using potholders to pull worms out of the ground and others swore they heard the trees whistling for the dogs. And tell the truth, you yourself have parked a quarter mile away and sweated your way across some parking lot just so you could leave your car in the shade. Yessiree. Summer in Bentwater, Texas. Don't know about you, but I'm happy, happy, happy to be here...
